Retail Cash Memo Format
It is sad that despite my requests the Govt of India has not released any prescribed format of a Retail Cash Memo indicating at what price the retailer will charge GST from a consumer in the manner that it does not exceed the Maximum Retail Price.
It has been given to understand that the GST will be calculated in the same manner as was advised under the VAT Scheme i.e. the wholesalers, distributors, dealers and retailers will charge VAT at the difference of purchase and sale price - not on the printed MRP or the discounted MRP.
It will be appreciated if the Department of Consumer Affairs get the clarification from the Finance Ministry along with a printed format of retail cash memo. more

How and why the government should specify a format for Retailers' Cash memo? Neither it was ever done. It is at the sole discretion of the retailers to design a format, which should essentially contain the retailer's registration No. and a serial No. in addition of the retailer's name and address and particulars of the items sold including prices and at the end the rate and amount of GST charged & collected (separately for CGST & SGST) on the total sale amount. In fact, the problems being faced by the consumers since introduction of GST is that many of the retailers are charging GST over and above the MRP taking the advantage of their customers being ignorant of the new rules and their applicability, which is in contravention of the government instructions clarified at the initial stage of introduction of the revised tax regime. more

Retail cash memo format was not defined, because everyone is free to create his own business logo format, but should contain all the essential details viz. GST, Shop Name/Address, Price. CGST, SGST etc. There are many chain shop in your town,viz Medplus, More etc. which are billing with all details. Visit them and enlighten yourself. more
