State of District Consumer Forums -

Some time back the district forum at Mumbai’s Nariman Point was housed in decrepit barracks next to a stinking toilet; some others had no proper clerical staff, no stenographer to dictate orders to (so orders reached the parties after four weeks whereas the limit for filing an appeal is 30 days).

The district forum at Mysore was set up 10 km from the nearest bus stop. Consumers’ convenience was, apparently, not a priority.

What can be done to improve this? more

1.All establishments must have details to give complaint/ feedback in the front office in prominent place. 2. All establishments should have a complaint book as specified by the concerned authorities. 3 All those complaint books must be signed by concerned department even when no complaint is recorded like a night duty police patrolling. 4. number of postponements be restricted in consumer courts. I have tried many times to write a complaint but they have only loose papers Which can be easily misplaced. more
We shall run a column in new paper for all theae issue then inly it will be heard . I suggest we can also have collective lawer to represent the issue. more
I fully agree. The condition of consumer fora is pathetic and the responsibility lies solely on the government and the president of the forum. The President himself does not care about the `Consumer Act`. He allows the respondent to file the reply even after 45 days which has been disapproved by the Supreme Court. Not only this, limitless adjournments are allowed as per the request and convenience of lawyers of both sides which is against the spirit of the act. Many of the advocates are not aware of the CPA and so they try to follow the tactics of Civil court in delaying the matter in the consumer courts and the President finds himself helpless. more
Can we move high court for a direction f proper place and proper infrastructure for district forum? more
Ms.Seema is right in her suggestions more
