Stent Pricing

It is shocking to read in paper that:
1) It costs a domestic company around Rs 8,000 to make a stent
2) Manufacturer's margin is low. The distributors make anywhere between 13% and 200%.
3) Hospitals hike prices in the range of 11% to 654%.

Question is how many people have died because they couldn't afford stents. Who should be held responsible for it.

Hope NPAA and Health Ministry takes actions and Consumer Ministry ensures it. more

Local circles must take this cause up and get a health pricing circle started with nppa more
Govt must immediately bring stent pricing under packaged commodity rules and stents should have MRPs and all hospitals should be complying. more
It is really surprising and unimaginable that a govt. which has law to protect consumers and display of price on each commodity even if it is a pact of snack costing just Rs.5/- under its rule can be so negilgent about such life saving device. The govt. is hundred percent responsible for this negligent attitude or shall we assume that the government officials are hand in gloves with the pharma cos. It is high time that the strict action should be taken against erring officials and pharma companies. more
The gready and selfish take the advantage of the situation and hike stent price. Some service minded NGO can keep stock and supply stents on humanitarian grounds.Dr.B.M.Hegde may also give a good solution. more
