Strengthening Product Approvals in FDI light

With the change in FDI regulation, a trinkets chain like 99 store of china can now directly open a store in India, push a lot of sub standard mechandise that is used in household.

It is high time, we define what can be brought in by foreign players and what product standards they must meet before they start selling stuff in India.

Please share your thoughts. Sharing it in this circle as Bureau of Indian Standards under Consumer Ministry will have big role to play here. more

I do not thing the government has done any good work. It is now free for all. more
I do not think that Cina's 99 store should qualify for 100% FDI in single brand retail as they sell various products manufactured by many companies of China. In my opinion this can not be treated as single brand retail. more
Anti dumping clause, hazardous / toxic material import prevention clause can help more
There cannot be any problem if we produce quality but cheaper products in India. There should be a strict quality compliance of any product(whether indigenous or imported). The importer should be held responsible for import of any substandard goods. more
Time for us to wake up and realise finally which way the wind is blowing. The recent FDI regulation by the government of india would bring in foreign investments which "China welcomed over 20-30 years ago and reaped profits and finds itself ahead of India on that front by over 30 years or more", and which would also help India develop its overseas market. So, India too must have foreign investments to make "Make in India" work successfully. Without foreign investment no under-developed country can hope for transformation into the developed world. High time that we Indians stop looking down upon Chinese products and their quality as inferior to the quality of Indian products. Today, Indian shops are full of more Chinese products than they are of products of Indian manufacture. Does that not hurt you, dear Indians, or does that not send you a signal? We all need to wake up!!!! Only by appreciating the competition shall we earn some recognition of our own actions/products/reform-plans/ if we put our efforts in improving our own product quality. Gone are the days when we as Indians could quote our ancient scriptures and feel over and above the rest of the world. Reality is very down to earth, dear friends. You've got to earn that "feather in your cap" by your actions and not by your "scriptures"..... Wake up and best of luck!!!!!!! more
