Trade Margin Capping on medicines

Tab Vorrier by Zydus has MRP ₹ 4600. Approx available at ₹450,

Tab Valgan by Cipla co MRP ₹1600 Approx available at ₹750

Can the authorities do something so trade margin for medicines is capped at 50%??

Only consumer loses because chemists manipulate the uneducated and even educated get duped more

Yes. Very true. Now, I buy most of my medicines from Jan Aushadalaya at a fraction of the cost of buying in regular medical shops. People have to become aware of this and use the facility. However there is certainly a need for capping the MRP. more
I think 1)the MRP and selling price difference is increased from the date of introduction of GST. The GST is charged at the manufacturing point on sale price and MRP has no concerned for calculating/ charging GST. 2) Therefore, (according to me) the MRP is just to earn more and more profit by the treaders taking advantage of market or a persons (SOS) requirement. A) This is, where the medicine is actually taxed (GST), at every stage of handling. B) Where the sale is without GST documents/cash memo/bill, all profit is nothing but black money created at every stage. 3) Therefore, charging tax (GST) practice / method should be pre-GST regime i.e. Central Excise MRP valuation rules. Where manufacturer have to pay Duty at manufacturing point calculating MRP (-) prescribed abatement amount. This “abatement amount” is average expenses from the factory gate to the last retailer. more
Please note that printing of MRP (valid all over India) was made compulsory for all packaged products including medicines by government to safeguard consumers from arbitrary pricing. MRP includes transport cost also which varies depending on distance. Therefore if a product is made in Mumbai its MRP will include maximum transport cost for delivery all over India. This is the reason chemists are able to offer discounts. Government may consider amending the MRP Rules to print different MRP for sale in different States. The item will carry "For Sale in Maharashtra only" or "For Sale in Tamilnadu only" etc. more
No body knows that what is the cost price of a particular medicine? How much is the Margin. When a Shopkeeper can give 20% discount then how much profit he must be earning? There is a lot of scope for price regulation in Medicines. more
Very wide differences in price of same or similar medicine of different brands is not in the interest of Consumers. Though I am not an expert in drug pricing, there must be some cap on difference between basic cost and sale price. more
