Tussle for BIS
It appears that the new Consumer Affairs Minister is trying to move BIS away from Consumer Ministry into Commerce Ministry.
BIS is an inefficient lethargic and slow to act system and commerce ministry is also similar so the fit is good.
I dont think it can make any standards for consumers so it need not be under consumer ministry. For 2-3 years we have been saying make standards for services but they cant get anything done.
So good riddance according to me. Like to hear what others say. more

BIS has already initiated work on Standardization in various Services Sectors through the Services Sector Division Council (SSDC) and 14 Sectional Committees committees under this Division council are functional.
