Since gold jewellery is an avenue of investment for the rich or poor, it is incumbent upon the government to come up with a suitable regulation policy for sale/resale since the hapless owners of this asset are the victims of shrewd jewellery businessmen. We do not understand the concept they cite regarding Wastage charges etc etc and we realise we are victims but are helpless. Some shops are using machines to test purity before buyback. If possible we may use the same machine at the time of buying also. more  
with the recent press reports on reputed jewellers, there is no doubt that they are cheating the public and government machinery is silent spectators. more  
The common man buys gold ornaments to meet his bare minimum social requirements and cannot afford to visit another shop to sell the same to check the purity of gold. This provides ample opportunity to the jewellery shops to loot the buyers. The Hall Mark officials should randomly test the purity of gold in every city/town to save the poor and hapless from this continued age old loot. Merely making laws or issuing circulars will not work. more  
Immediately after buying the gold jewellery, get the jewellery purity tested again from any approved Gold Hall marked assayer, available in jewellery bazar, at nominal charges. If any discrepancy found, you can approach the jeweller for refund. on refusal u can go to consumer court. Never buy gold without proper purchase invoice. more  
Also more think to remember... 1. Check the original logo of jeweller otherwise he will deny that jewellery not relates to him.

2. Always check gross weight of jewellery and net weight of gold has been written in the bill or not. Maximum times jewellers write 'NET WEIGHT' instead of 'NET WEIGHT OF GOLD' to cheat customers. So if full lines' net weight of gold' is not written donot purchase jewellery.

3. If hallmark jewellery has purchased then It is mandatory to write hallmarking charges in the bill which are only 35/ rupees only. If jeweller dose not write do not buy and complaint to BIS Becoz BIS and consumer court will not listen to you even hallmarks are present on jewellery. Jeweller easily say that bill is for unhallmark jewellery.

4. Kindly check logo of BIS hallmark on bill. As per policy of BIS, logo of BIS HALLMARK is ILLEGAL to print on the bill whether jewellery is hallmarked or unhallmarked.

5. A BIS certified jeweller can sell unhallmarked jewellery as per rules. So beware about fake hallmarks too. IF you will not check logo of jeweller which is certified by BIS then jeweller will give you fake hallmark jewellery and later can deny that jewellery does not relates to him. He claims that you made replica and come to grab the money.

DONOT BELIEVE ON CONSUMER COURTS BECOZ AT LEAST 10 YEARS WILL BE WASTED BY YOU OF YOUR LIFE AND MONEY UNLIMITED.

SO BE MORE SMART AT THE TIME OF PURCHASING GOLD JEWELLERY. more
