UPI frauds through OLX Quikr etc

UPI has a feature wherein an individual or a merchant can send the user a request to collect money. The user needs to authorize the transaction using a security PIN. This PIN is like an ATM PIN and not a uniquely generated one-time password OTP. Fraudsters would try to get you to input your UPI Pin instead of the the UPI ID, which makes the transaction go through. This is the first and most common variation of misuse of the “request money" feature in UPI at present.

“What also happens at times is that the fraudster will make a purchase on an online platform and enter your UPI VPA (virtual payment address) in the mode of payment. You will get the collect request. If you enter your PIN at this stage, you have paid for someone’s else’s online purchase. more

Many such cases are being posted in social media. If you give your UPI VPA (virtual payment address) in the mode of payment, amount will be debited from your account. more  
On any portal, when you by-pass the Portal's Payment Process, and prefer to transact personally, you're leaving yourself open to fraud. The fault lies with you, as buyer or seller, in NOT following the Portal's Payment process - then why blame the portal ? more  
I was selling my AC on OLX. I got a call yesterday and that person wanted to pay me upfront without negotiation for the product. He asked me if i accept paytm, i said YES. Instead of direct paytm he was insisting for paytm UPI. gave him my banks UPI and asked him to transfer directly. He is missing post that. i suspect he intent to try similar tricks. more
