Working of the online community - Connected Consumers

All members may please note that this community circle Connected Consumers is founded by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India and provides an avenue to the common consumer to highlight systemic gaps and issues as well as participate in policy consultations from time to time. Many of your consultations have led to policy amendments like Packaged Commodity Rules 2017, Restaurant Service Charge advisories, etc.

It is not a platform for resolution of individual grievances, however, other members in the community who have experience with such grievances can guide you or share their experiences with you.

Every quarter 4 subjects are taken up for consultation. Also, based on your posts, senior leadership of the Department of Consumer Affairs is briefed on repeating issues as well as developing issues related to consumers.

If you have additional inputs on how can we make the platform even more effective, do share with us. more

Surge pricing is an issue which is not dealt by the department as the govt. (Railways) has also started this practice imitating the private entities. It is equivalent to extortion of the poor consumers who are helpless but to bow down to the demands. It is another form of black marketing but done officially.Only those who are rich can afford the surge pricing. more
Grievience resolution is very poor in India. This must be expedited by concerned agency. more
Though a very few of our observations/suggestions made on this platform during last 4/5 years have been taken care of by the department so far, it has to be acknowledged that the the department is moving in the right direction though in a very slow pace. The provisions for dual pricing in the respective laws has encouraged the greedy traders to loot the consumers at large and must be abrogated with immediate effect. Looking to the increasing trend of complaints pouring in on the issue, it is expected that the government will rethink on its decision on the issue and amend suitably to make it pro-consumers. more
Yes I agree with Mr.AA Jose comment on the stand taken by the DoCA . more
Worst part is accessibility to relevant grievance forum - addresses, contact details, procedures, speed & quality of justice. In fact this is the first step the depptt. need take. Contact details should be available with every single Indian. more
