BAN LOUDSPEAKERS AT RELIGIOUS PLACES OF WORSHIP
Noise pollution is an invisible danger and impacts millions of people on a daily basis.
The Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 have specified “Permissible decibel limits in residential areas, during day time 55 dB (A) and night time 45 dB”. Noise is measured in decibels or dB. “Night time” means the period between 10.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m.
It is observed that Loudspeakers have been installed at Temples & Mosques and are used daily round the year. This results in Noise Pollution and mental disturbance to people who are forced to listen to prayers of religion other than their own, at all times of day and night. India is a Secular country which allows people to practice their religion. Therefore use of Loudspeakers for prayers is harassment.
People of all religions have been praying for thousands of years prior to advent of Loudspeakers. So why are loudspeakers needed at places of worship which create avoidable noise pollution. There should be a total Ban on use of Loudspeakers at Temples and Mosques.
Central Government needs to enact a law for banning loudspeakers at religious places of worship. more

Why ban only between 10pm and 6am? During day time, construction activities make the most noise. Behind our apartment, there were about 5 single houses. Each one has been/is being demolished and converted to flats. All the works like tiles cutting, carpentry which is to be done in factories, is bring done onsite. We have been living with this noise for the past 5 years. more

Agreed. Sometimes, the fireworks during Deepavalli also are jarring to the ears and affects the brain, especially for senior citizens. The road bhajans, and mosque loudspeakers are causes of noise pollution as well. Even traffic is a generator of noise pollution. The challenge is how to implement the already existing laws. Install decibel meters strategically residential areas? Require manufacturers to ensure automotive noise level is not greater the 55dB? How about diesel vehicles? The cost of vehicles would go up to install noise-reduction equipment. Enforce mosques and temples to conform to the 55dB sound level outside the building? Interesting thoughts. more
