The catering services on board even Rajdhani and Shatabdi have deteriorated like any thing over the past 05 years. The catering services on board other trains are horrible. The charges do not justify either the quality or quantity. Even on station the services are poor. Leave aside the meals even tea or cofee availble at exorbitantly high price and that too of very poor quality.
These all are due to the malpractices in allotment and consequently no control over them.
1)Some Pantry staff sale Rail Neer @ Rs 20/- some @ Rs 15/- in the same train(Train No-13151,Kolkata Jammu Tawai Exp).
2)Food outlets at Kolkata Chitpur Stn charging 60% more than the displayed price of food items.M/s Brandavan Food Productsdoing 60% over chargeringfor food product than rate chart displayed.
In Rate chart Plane Rice = 30/-
But in the bill it is 48/-(60% more than the rate chart).
All rate chart of food items should be displayed inclusive tax price for the fare transparency of passengers.
The quality of food that used to prepared at the Railway base kitchens earlier and served on trains was far, far superior both in terms of quality and content. Unfortunately, the food available presently is not only of poor quality, it is often inappropriate and poorly presented.
I am frequent traveller by Shatabdi Express trains, and the menu has remained the same for years now. For these trains plying in South India, it should not be difficult at all to provide a south Indian menu. Instead it is the same menu over and over again, be it lunch/dinner or teatime snack or breakfast.
railway authority should come out of railway station and check at least medium sized caterers who are famous for local specialities and also check procedures and implement instead of watery chetiney or hard poories or curries. without salt and spicey.
the main problem is all catering associates took tender for certain time and he spends so much money to take a tendor. Due to this reason all company wants to earn more money since every one wants only profit thats it. if railway distributes the tender after that there is no investigation either inside the train or outside the train. You have to fix accountability across the all vendors.
