Rationalising ATM Charges: Inputs Sought
As many of you may have read by now that RBI has accepted the long pending LocalCircles ask and mandated zero charges on RTGS and NEFT. RBI is also considering our past submission on ATM usage charges and credit/debit card transaction charges.
We would like to seek your inputs on what is your experience with ATM usage charges and how should they ideally work.
We will then compile and share the same with RBI. It is critical that for Digital Payments to become the norm and for people to reduce reliance on cash, all such bottlenecks are eliminated.

Since annual charge is levied for ATM, there should be no further charges for the usage of debit cards (ATM card) more

Support the demand as very genuine and RBI should accept it. In the presenc eof annual charge, there should be no other charge in the name of facility. The service provider is under obligation to provide it in order to make the system work. more

HDFC charges a fee even for the first non-HDFC ATM transaction. Essentially, we are paying to withdraw our money. Since they are collecting an annual fee for the card, they should not charge for any ATM transactions. more

In my opinion there should not be any charges for ATM transaction, as part of banking activities is getting reduced. However, the charges (if any) should be nominal, as a good number transaction and bank if getting good amount as charges. more

I do not know whether it is relevant here. On 6th June, when I paid fee online through credit card for renewal of my passport extension, for 1500, I was asked to pay 1526. 54 paise. I do not understand the need for this extra fee? Can somebody explain please? more
