The need of the hour is breeding cattle that eat less and give more milk as they can help farmers survive drought period and also rear the cattle on even meager holding. their small size would also make them un-attractive commercial proposition for butchers and make abundant organic matter available for both bio gas and as fertilizer. I had bred such a cow giving 15 lt.s peak yield and weighing about 125 kg. After I became sick I closed down my dairy but can help recreate such a breed if the government takes interest in such a concept which could truly be a Kamdhenu for Indians. more

It is apparent that the so called A@ milk is marketed by an Australian company and yet some links claim it is found in milk of India cattle. so much for marketing mantra. This is more or less the same way Indians began believing that reconstituted milk is better than mother's milk with assistance from Indian Medical Fraternity many years back when europe had surplus milk and now suddenly the enlightened Indian Medical fraternity has woken up to the fact of mother's milk being best for babies. Please do not be carried away with everything that you read on the net. more
Just google on A1 & A2 milk. Lot of info on it. more
The cows with hump are all categorized as Zebu cattle AKA Bos Indicus, and are spread over entire tropical area of the world and not only India. where as those called foreign cattle are without prominent hump and are classified as Bos Taurus. The golden colour is Vitamin "A" which the Zebu cattle are not much able to assimilate but the colour is seen more in cattle grazing on pasture lands and less so in stall fed cattle. So even in jersey the colour yellow will be seen depending on what it is fed. If one is observant one will observe that in summer time the hump becomes loose and falls sidewise especially on free range cattle as they use the fat stored there for survival. I have not heard of something called A1 or A2 milk. May be you are referring to branding by the dairies that collect milk and standardize it. more
What's difference in the A1 & A2 milks. Why We Indians do not drink A2 milk. more
Hump is said to be the most important thing for a Desi cow or any real cow. All these jersey cows do not have it and the color of the milk from jersey cows is not as golden color as Desi cows. What does this mean? more
