Indian Railways is a great venture in itself. This I believe is one of the best gifts that the British left for us. our Railways have evolved along way since independence but I sincerely believe that even much more remains to be done. The scenario on any station and any platform at any place today in our country is such that It happens to be a public place. All types of people ..jobless,beggars, hawkers, thieves, strangers and what not. Despite having a system of " platform tickets" which incidentally abvery few law abiding citizen purchase this very important Railway property is apparently a free for all facility. I think that the time has come for the Railway authorities to impose strict admission norms as far as the platform is concerned. Just like we have strict entry restrictions on the airports ..we must now enforce strict admission criteria. Only bonafied passengers with valid Boarding pass and accompanying people with Platform pass be allowed to enter on the platform. Let us outsource the security to CRPF like police personnel ...just as the way it is done at the airports. To start with we can enforce this type of system in all major junctions and stations in the country and then slowly we can percplate this down to smaller stations. This type of discipline will have the following positive effects on the Railway system.
1.It will improve security standards.
2.it will help bring down unnecessary crowding on the platform ..thus reducing the stress on bonafied passengers.
3.It will bring down the Railway related crime and accident rates.
4.The Railway personnel will be able to operate in a less stressful environment.
I think the Railway ministry should give a serious thought about the above mentioned suggestions. more

Yes, Security is still a question in all the trains, more particularly in Mumbai local sub-urban trains. more
Samples of food served by caterers should be tested in lab periodically for bacteria more
Yes, Security in Mumbai Local Trains is one of the major concern. Despite Terror attacks in past still the security check is poor. There is need of XRay machines, Door Frame Metal Detector and Hand Held Metal Detectors and profiling and random check of passengers. Outsourcing to private security firm can also be considered more
I fully agree with you. Also unauthorised travellers are also big problem for bonafied passengers. Zero tolerance policy should be adopted for unauthorised passengers. more
