10 REASONS FOR ROAD ACCIDENTS

In my opinion here are the 10 reasons for road accidents with weightages besides them.
1. Bad roads. 20%
2. Lack of implementation of road rules. 20%
3. Lack of discipline & considerations on the roads 15%
4. Impatience and Rash driving due to late for work. 8% . Nowadays latecomers in offices are penalised.
5. Lack of proper training & knowledge of road signs and driving methods. 10%
6. Obstructions on the roads due to haphazard parking, hawkers on the roads, shops storage spilling on the roads, construction & roadwork, cattle movement. 10%
7. Malfunctioning & not functioning of the traffic lights & non-observance of signals. 5%
8. Drivers & Passengers not following adequate safety measures.5%
9. Inadequate lighting of roads in the night 4%
10. Distractions such as posters, hoardings, advertisement boards etc. 3%.

While I appreciate the efforts of Mr.Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road & Highways, it is doubtful if the recent steep increases in fine amounts have done any good at all. The duties of Traffic Police seem to be more to increase or meet their targets for revenue collections rather than bring some order on the roads. Navigating on Inter-city traffic and roads continue to be a nightmare for the people. more

Our police force is not doing their work properly.Punishment/Fines have to be severe so that drivers will not repeat same mistake.Drivers have to be more educated to understand road ethics and decipline. more
Turning of road must also be painted on road with direction in safe clear distance that can follow easily ,with hump right turn , U turns must mentioned on road also, hump must painted with / line pedestrians with l line between vehicle in running must keep more as speed increase minimum should one vehicle length when stop so that marking on road is visible to driver, he should also be aware of another vehicle motion language and speed in turning over taking with care only, slow, heavy vehicle must keep left on high way road... more
Lake of regular training and testing, fear of punishment also may cause accident. more
Lack of training, issue of licence and their renewal without actually checking the knowledge of driving is the basic requirement. Subsequently loose adherence to enforcing the rules and regulations encourages bad driving habits. Also lack of rigorous design, construction and maintenance of roads including their continued degradation due to apathy is another. All these mak the road and driving a lethal mix of accidents and worst mortality on roads, worst in the whole world!!!! more
In my opinion, more than 90% of road accidents are the result of rush driving, carelessness, utter disregards being shown towards rules & laws, complete insensible being displayed towards the safety of other driving people & pedestrians and above all total negligence of own safety. more
