Accident Response by Locals

I am new to this circle and only joined it after seeing activity in emergency response circle of Kanpur.
In fact my uncle was onsite yesterday helping people on the spot, providing water and some of his friends took people to hospital. He said, they could have used help from more ppl yesterday in the first 3-4 hours.

My question to Railways is how can rail disaster response be improved. Why are your Kanpur Station Master, DRM, GM not engaging with people who have voluntarily become part of Kanpur Emergency circle. You should do this in every district not just Kanpur

Had you taken this initiative connected the blood banks, your staff, more people, I truly believe more ppl could have been mobilised yesterday faster. IT did not even occur to me till I saw Aditi Gupta's msg. Even lions club rotary clubs, blood banks, hospitals need to be given access to such endevaours. Also NDRF played such big role yesterday. They should be there.

When rail accidents do happen you have to rely on local people and if good socially oriented citizens can be mobilized u have chance of saving more lives. more

The accident of Indore-Patna near Kanpur was unfortunate.I came to understand that a passenger complaint the possibility of irregular vibration in the coach, but the Railway authorities ignored by stating that will see once the train reaches Kanpur.either the authorities ignored by shirking their responsibility or the sufficient maintenance facility was not available at the station[the irregularity was reported].This needs serious retrospection by every divisional team,so that such accidents can be avoided. The similar incident took place with train No.19711[JP-BPL Express] but fortunately the problem was taken care by the Rly staff before it becomes a disaster. Thus a similar accident was avoided. My wife was travelling withe train in the coach B1,around Bhilwara the abnormal vibrations in the coach was reported to the authorities, immediate as a response the train was attended by the maintenance team & after a rigorous 4 hour action b the Rly staff the problem in the coach was corrected. Now the question is that if the rack was checked & maintenance would have taken it seriously, such a situation can be avoided. It was a fortunate thing that the train escaped from any untoward incident, because of a passenger. Secondly on interaction with the staff at Jaipur,I came to understand that most of the technical staff is sitting at Zonal HQ instead of working on track & most of the racks are being shifted on the platform without any thorough checking. It seems the officers concerned are least bothered about the safety & using the junior staff in all other works, other than their duties. Can we afford to have Bullet train with such a present situation? more
I support anjuum ansari's views to enroll local volunteers through ngos and render support during emergencies in respective sections of the railways more
The station masters of all important stations and other major stations should be provided with names of NGOs and their contact numbers in their area as well as nearby towns/cities also. This will be a major help for railways while doing relief work. At least 10 to 25 volunteers should be registered at every stations for relief work. more
it is grief- fully unfortunate that in-spite of the all possible known Modes of Engineering Failures in this advanced technical age this accident, as is almost apparent, is that, that this accident has occurred , which is only primarily attributable to the track or the vehicle mal-functioning ; it is unworthy on the part of the engineering section or their poor engineering or operational management . The matter needs to be thoroughly investigated, in public interest, and the failure analysis report to be made public for accumulating suggestions and for the response from the people of India and people particularly for improving the inspection techniques, inspection schedules, component wise functional critical assessment meeting the desirable reliability( which should be voted for, in the entire country) and assessing the existing reliability with taking nationwide opinion as to what could be tolerable reliability that the country demands from railways and setting up an independent regulatory body to look into the complete design, mfg process, inspection etc. during mfg and servicing , daily inspection and technical halt schedule etc. for safety , reliability and consistency. The matter needs to be taken on the highest priority as train accident are more deadly than air or road accidents as the number of causalities in majority train accidents are shockingly high and to be treated as a national disaster. My condolences to the bereaved families and complete introspection of the Indian railways, onvarious accounts including technical measures of safety and precautionary measures meeting the reliability and safety requirement as set by the people of India. more
Dear saxena,s comment to find anything on the happenings in railways, is corruption. All the station masters or other officers are not appointed or posted to a particular station by virtue of his merrit or capabillity. nepotism, poltical pressure and something more is in all the Govt laisonings ,stores, postings, promotions etc.So far as powers of station masters are concerned ,he has enough of contigent ammounts to spend on petty and emergency time uses or requirments. What is happening withen the railway station boundry,no body is going to check.Foul smell on platforms does only bother PRABHU the God,not the prabhu raiway minister. more
