Airline sites/app dark patterns reported will get them fined 10 lakh

Our own survey is running on TV today (NDTV) showing how airline websites manipulate fares based on our keenness, levy hudden charges and show false urgency.

I googled and found the detailed report.

I urge all to go through. If you spot a dark pattern and raise complaint the airline can be fined 10 lakh for a violation more

I have personally experienced that airlines ticket pricing fluctuates frequently if searches on the websites are done more than one time. Repeated searches for cheaper flights are bound to show inflated ticket price and sometimes in the middle of attempt to book the tickets suddenly pop up appears informing that the price of the ticket has gone up and you have no choice but to pay the inflated charges. Even after you continue booking, you will end up to find that several other costs have been added like convenience fee, chute charges, seat charges etc etc. to make the total payable charges almost 1000/- to 2500/- added cost about which you have not expected till the last. If you are a senior citizen and booking air ticket in that category on your yatra app or another travel agencies app, there are several hidden charges waiting to be added in the end before making payment. No body, much less the civil aviation ministry is there to listen to this exploitation of the air travelers by the travel companies including the airline website. Ultimately, the senior citizens too end up paying the additional hidden charges making the ticket price almost same as any other passenger. I have raised this issue several times at different platforms but nothing happened and no govt. or airline authority even acknowledged to my complaint. It now is clear that the airlines have tacit understanding with the concerned departments and ministries to have free run to exploit the needy travelers. more
The move to fine airlines for using dark patterns is a significant step towards protecting consumers from manipulative practices. Ensuring transparency and fairness in booking processes helps build trust and improves the overall customer experience. more
