Are you happy with the food served by IR & IRCTC ?

I want you to share your thoughts, experiences and feedback on the food that is being served by Indian Railways (Divisions -N,E,W,S) & by IRCTC, and their appointed Food plaza/Food Court & other Formats.

I believe that there is a huge gap between passenger expectations on the Quality, Quantity & Price part and the service that is being provided by the Railways say whether it is in a inter-state or intra-state stations or to say in a Suburban station.

Most of the Suburban stations run with any Light Refreshment Stall (LRS) or other passenger amenities in the Chennai region.

Problems for most of these lies in the "CATERING POLICY" & "Tendering method" of Indian Railways which is a Capitalistic. It doesn't allow fair competition among service providers. Most of the food industry people hesitate to come in to this because of the officials red-tapism & harassment.

Instead of Indian Railways being a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) you cannot get any details or information from them about their functioning & other details which should have been in Public Domain. The officials even dare RTI!

Have any one gone through their (Indian Railways) Catering Policy ?

As most passengers think that it is the small time service providers who spoil the experience of them but the truth is the other way around. Small time service providers are not even considered for the task.

Until and unless there is a immediate & drastic change in the Catering Policy and Tendering Method no one can expect a decent food at affordable price from Indian Railways & IRCTC. more

TTR is the right person to contact or else the station masters/Managers. more
My husband asked for the complaint book to the person who served the food, but he politely ignored the question and offered extra rice, curd etc. as he is not the person to show our anger or complain him, we just refused his offer. more
Did you express your anguish to the concerned officers ? more
we were returning from Dehradun by shatabdi express , the dinner served in the train was very poor quality. The paneer in the paneer subzi was very bad quality, the masala was very strong that no one can eat, either young or the old. The dhal served also very poor quality. The dhahi served was good and the rice was half boiled but as there is no option left out we had that food. Many passangers wasted the food and those who ate were forcefully had it as the train reaches delhi at 11 pm. It is very difficult to have dinner after that and we cannot buy anything of our choice even though we have money with us. My daughter had severe stomach pain and loose motion the next day. They can provide us simple food with one dhal thadka, a normal subzi and fully boiled rice. The children and the old can have it . Rlys charges more money for shatabdi but treating passengers as beggars. Please consider this and help the passengers. Just u can supervise the train and most of the passengers waste the food items as poor people don't get proper food for one time in a day. Please look in to this matter............. more
