Banks are becoming high headed

ICICI bank is willing to close my sisters account if She doesn’t link her Aadhar! She has had the account for 14 years. And now She has to close the account.

The executive came equipped with a machine to take her biometrics. He said he would match with what she has given at UIDAI.

So what is happening here. Bank executives many of those who sell our data frequently will now do uidai validations. more

Linking Aadhar with bank accounts doesn't require verification of biometrics of the account holders more
To my knowledge, Banks are authorised to access the data of UIDAI through e-KYC. The process doesn't disclose any further information than what is available on the Aadhar card. It just authenticates that you are genuine holder of the Aadhar card and all details contained in the card are unchanged since you have downloaded it. However, for linking Aadhar & PAN, which is mandatory for continuation of bank accounts (all your financial data is then linked to 26 AS statement of I.T.Dept. which is the basis for tax assessment) and the bank executive is only doing service to the lady. Otherwise, please link them through OTP, if you are registered on I.T. website. It will do no good if educated citizen make hue & cry to comply with law of land. more
Banks are staffed with poorly trained staff. There is little attention or concern to customer service. And neither public sector nor private sector fare any better in this regard. The private sector banks are out to milk the customer by any means including mis-selling of products and offerings. The public sector continues to be laid back and laggards. To add to this misery, frequent KYC and unfriendly changes in the payment systems by RBI plague us. Today, it is very difficult to setup simple things like standing instructions for payment. Payment gateways are also fleecing customers with high charges on online 9cashless) transactions. So much for the ease of banking. And banks are not even supposed to ask for Aadhaar as per the judgement of the Supreme Court. more
Your comments are so apt and hitting the nail on the head. One really needs to be on the alert. There are more than many bogus callers out there. Some days ago I received a phone call that our RO unit was due for servicing. They wanted to send a service engineer and WANTED TO KNOW MY NAME AND OUR ADDRESS. How can you take such callers for genuine? And moreover we do not have a RO unit at home.

The same can happen with people posing as bank executives wanting your details which they can check elsewhere. These are fake people wanting to take you for a ride. Unfortunately, we read about many citizens falling into their net. YOU CANNOT BE ALERT ENOUGH TODAY. more
It is not necessary to give biometrics for linking aadhar with pan. It can be done at home by visiting income tax site. It is not compulsory to link aadhar with bank account. Giving PAN NO to bank is sufficient. more
The government has created enough confusion and made all of us vulnerable to frauds! Let me clarify - on one side they say we should not share our complete Aadhar number and on the other they instruct that we must link Aadhar, PAN, account number etc. Aadhar card is also expected by every other agency as Id proof! Aadhar etc. can be misused to access financial information among other things!! more
