Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) for calls

I think all the surveys of LocalCircles have finally woken the regulator up.

https://www.localcircles.com/a/press/page/pesky-call-data-survey

The CNAP initiative is being implemented by TRAI to display name of caller (basis Aadhaar) and pilot is running in Maharashtra and Haryana.

My question is so many numbers were given pre Aadhar and on voter id driving license etc. what happens to that.

Also if i got the sim for my husband (on my name) when he calls his business associates/clients/prospects will they see Naina Mittal (my name) as caller? more

I feel that this will not reduce pesky calls as it has nothing to do with the name displayed on screen. For example I may see a "Amrish Mishmash" as the callers name while the caller may be calling on behalf of Tarta Crapital or Badaj Furnance. How would I be able to differentiate between the phone holders name and the purpose of the call? Similarly my wife, parents and children will have my name showing on display if they make a call to anyone as their connections are taken in my name. How do we segregate this? It is practically a pain for a household to expect each person to be responsible for their names on the mobile phone CNAP service. What will people with elderly parents do? How do authorities expect names to be handled - by another half-hearted national KYC and authentication process? Linking mobile billers name with display on call in order to stop unwanted calls is a creation of a new problem and not a solution to unwanted calls. Unwanted calls can be restricted only by administrative action based on public complaints about a company. Once these companies start seeing fines and action of prosection, they will fall in line and use proper business numbers to make their calls. DSA's for finance companies can also be checked. All this can be easily done by strict adminsitrative action in a matter of months if the bureaucracy wants it. The truth is that these businesses pay money to political parties for all kinds of leeway, including uncontrolled call traffic. Telecom operators love it as they get their revenue share. If this free call facility for pesky calls has to end, make them pay so they learn. Otherwise CNAP will only help authorities like TRAI take a nap for a few years saying they are implementing this crazy idea to stop unsolicited calls. Politicians and agencies will be raking in their moolah in the meantime. CNAP is as crazy an idea for stopping unwanted calls as digging in the ground below a mango tree expecting to get mangoes. more
It's a good proposal. I support it. more
This a good beginning to reduce pesky calls. Its obvious if thr SIM is in your name, the name will that will appear there will be yours, but that's not much of a worry. The problem will be when so many sims are issued benami with fake documents. But still this is a good step. more
Registered name shall appear. Don't worry. You should have a option to change name in the operator company. Govt should act on that without any charges, but genuinely of course. more
