Chain pulling in Trains – Key Issues:
1. People pull chains for convenience rather than emergencies
2. Short Distance Travellers use it to Stop at Unscheduled Stops
3. Chains are pulled at places where there are no platforms
4. In many cases, thieves pull the chain and get off the train to escape cops
5. Vendors pull the chain after the train starts moving to get off
6. It is also done by the people who carry goods from one state to another or cities to save payable duties and taxes
7. On some stations, the train stops for a very short duration, not sufficient to board/de-board, especially with families and luggage, leading to chain pulling
8. During political rallies unruly mobs pull chain frequently
9. VIPs arrive late and their staffers indulge in chain pulling to keep the trains on station till they board more

I would like to say that don't allow passengers which are in waiting list to board the train. There should be strict ticket checking of the passengers when the train passes through the frequent chain pulling route. The doors of the train should remain closed until the next route stoppage comes (It will not allow the chain pullers to board the train) more
In my opinion to minimize the chain pulling, which are frequent in our area(Malda division Sahibganj loop line) railway should make an arrangement to lock the iron plates in the passage among two coaches joint, because I have noticed that passengers lift the iron plate among two coaches and by twisting the nob vacuum is diturbed to stop train. The other thing I would like to bring in notice that only one or two passenger trains are running between Kiul Jn to Sahibganj, therefore passenger/DMU trains should be increased in this rout for passengers only then passengers of short distance shall stop to travell in EXP TRAINS and pull chain to stop the train at their destination. more
chain system should be completely replace with switch button like we have in hotels. a red button may be provided in place of chain and a panel be provided in guard compartment where a red bulb will glow with beep, below the coach number, immediately on pressing the button. On wacky talky guard will instruct to coach attendant of that particularly alarming coach and based on her response action may be initiated by the guard. it is easy solution and can be done along with wiring for mobile charger point which is committed in budget. vidyapati pandey more
Chain pulling is not to be taken as a serious matter. In fact it helps people in distress .If necessary people should be encouraged in helping co passengers by pulling and stopping train, according to the seriousness. Self has been saved from serious consequences by the timely act of chain pulling by a guard whom I would remember all my life. more
