Change in name within family in IRCTC booked tkts.
For every individual irctc user, why does not IRCTC get a list of family. Family defined as self,spouse,children,parents,parents in law, in advance. This information will be frozen on site. So now IRCTC knows the age/name/gender of my family members for whom I normally book tkts. Within this group, I should be allowed to change name/alter gender/age etc from above frozen data. This freezing of data will ensure that this facility is not and cannot be misused on the spot. If any name is outside this frozen data ,such corrections would not be allowed on line.
Someone may register couple of dummy children. To check it ,mandate that all change of name tkts shall be checked by TT and that passenger should compulsorily carry specified id card. or,may be no more than 2 changes per year, etc more

I support S.K. Sinha's view. If the ticket is booked through IRCTC. The passenger should be allowed to change the name of the passenger within the family list already declared and forzen in the IRCTC site. Also change of boarding station should be allowed like cancellation, if the ticket is booked through IRCTC (of course before preparation of chart) instead of going to PRC. more

What a sorry state of affairs ! We Indians are experts in devising rules within rules,to prevent others to do something that we ourselves may not hesitate to do at some other point of time.A simple affair that one Mr.X wants to travel from one place to another is made so complicated by 100s of rules like can't do this, can't do that .Basic problem remains scarcity of line and coach capacity, but we are gleefully making more and more rules and restrictions.The latest rule regarding berths for kids is culmination of devilish mind.What if a side berth passenger takes a kid with him?He will be forced to forego the concession and buy a full ticket !Already Railways are bleeding the public with Tatkal and Premium fares which are not commensurate with facilities provided.There is no difference between the fleecing auto and taxi drivers outside and railways.Please rollback these gimmicks like child berth tickets etc., and go for transparent fare hikes.Railways have evolved over years as a social provider with Passenger amenities in mind, but do not convert it into a Shylok to make money making as sole objective.We need reforms, yes but it should come from toning up the culture.discipline and working methods and not by squeezing the hapless traveller at every turn.! more
