Concerned about Railways

I agree with the other post on financial condition. That could also be the reason railways is interacting less with us off late through this circle and doing things like flex fares.

The CAG report on railways, dated November 2016, in Chapter 3 cited, “Overstatement of earnings in Profit and Loss Account resulting in surplus to the extent of Rs 402.15 crore being projected than actually earned.” The CAG report in their Annexure J and K talks about misclassification, meaning putting expenditure under the heads that it doesn’t belong to and that it is put under capital instead of revenue.

The Railways is on the verge of bankruptcy if its operating ratio is 96.6 as reported last week. However if it is 120, then what happens. Will railways have money to pay salaries? more

I travelled on Jabalpur-Somnath Exp. 11464 from Jabalpur to Vadodara in Second AC. Coach Condition was pathetic, cockroaches moving around freely, Pull-up type Taps would ricochet from your on to your clothes. I don't know what improvement are we talking about in Railways???? more
The Railways needs a drastic overhaul.Officers are corrupt and only interested in making a fast buck through various contracts, canteen contractors; railway lines replacement contractors, various construction/repair contractors etc. etc.The top brass should be shown the door for falsifying the financial report as pointed out by the CAG. No mercy. The utilisation of its freight capacity is poor because of harassment of customers and demand of bribe money by the booking clerks. I myself have been a victim of this bribe and arm-twisting strategy indulged by the booking clerks. A surprise check and arrest for taking bribe must be done by the ACB. Passengers have no time to contact ACB and lay the trap. Otherwise, I would have done it. SUGGESTIONS: I had suggested differential rates for upper, lower and window berths. This would have earned the Railways more money.I had also suggested making the bed sheets of reduced width and the blankets thin like woollen shawls with reduced with. This would reduce the initial purchase cost and laundry expenses also. Unfortunately, these suggestions are not implemented. Consumption of diesel and oils must be audited to see if there is pilferage. I am dead sure it must be taking place. Similarly, auditing the recovery of brass items and its sale /recycling can throw light if such costly items are stolen. The various perks enjoyed by officers also needs to be reviewed. If there are areas where perks are ridiculously high, then they need to be corrected. The honest officers should be rewarded and those exposing corruption must be doubly rewarded. If the Railways places the various items of expenditure on the Local Circle then we will be in a better position to examine and suggest where the leaking holes can be plugged. more

I have no comment on this issue. The budgetary estimate near reality depends on the capability expert belonging concerned department/ Ministry. On Wed, Apr 26, 2017 at 7:56 AM, SN Mittal wrote: > more
Railways being part of Government, cannot take a total commercial point of view. So many social activities are getting fulfilled in operation of Railways, like employment to thousands of employees and their families are also benefitted, people travel with feeling of safety and love the railways, lakhs of vendors and their families get their bread, major travel problems getting addressed etc., Similarly the Government shall not think of withdrawing any of the available concessions and alter any conditions attached to such concessions like reducing the age etc.,, more
