Conflict of Interest for Govt Officials: Rules and Enforcement

Some of you have recently raised the issue of Government officials favoring certain companies at the end of their tenure in Government and later joining these companies as advisors or taking a board position. In some other instances, cases have been reported where Government officials are found to have a conflict of interest via related companies, giving contracts to family/friends or in some cases, even taking equity/property in certain cases or something that is very common is employment of children. These are all violations of ethics and classify as corrupt practices.

With this post, we would like to seek extremely specific inputs on how should Governments (Central and State) implement adherence to Conflict of Interest so such instances are significantly minimized.

We will compile these and share with key stakeholders so such cases can be minimized country wide.

We look forward to your inputs! more

When it is discovered that such unethical practices prevail, the government official should be suspended with immediate effect. Before a person is given a government position, he has to sign an agreement that if he is caught doing anything illegal or unethical, his services will be terminated, he will lose his gratuity and other pensions. more
Conflict of interest of Govt Staff was instigated by Politicians coupled with their Supporters from various Businesses and Agencies AND IS WHY RETIRED OFFICIALS SHALL BE SUBJECTED TO PROPORTIONATE REDUCTION OF PENSION IF THESE OPT SERVICES AFTER RETIREMENT. PUBLIC AND GOVT FUNDS SHALL NOT BE DRAINED. more
Both Central & State Government have rules which explicitly prohibit taking up jobs after retirement with in 3 years from retirement date with out getting specific permission. This is specifically applicable to All India Services Officers working in Economic Ministries having contact with public /Industries etc. To my mind, those who are engaged must have taken permission, if not it is against the service rules. Any violation should attract deterrent punishment including termination of post retirement benefits where the Officer, knowing the service rule has violated the provisions knowingly. In such cases ignorance should not be granted as bliss. Only such exemplary punishment can stop such violations & both Central & StateGovernment should act strict with no favor what so ever. V.Seshadri Bangalore more
Government do compulsory all Retired person should give voluntary service in there area helping people for five year more
In this time where average age of a person has reached 90+.If you retire a person at 58 or 60,he is alive for say 30+ years. There are many people who are non pensioners, and solely depend of interest. Interest rates are falling and inflation is rising. Such people will be bent upon serving after retirement. They will go with same profession/type of employer. To overcome this probably retirement age can be increased to 70 and there after they can be barred from any type of gainful employment. Another thing is ultimately population growth has to be checked so as to prevent unemployment. For this first of all,all political posts must be stopped after the age of 70. more
Govt Staff issue is different FROM PRIVATE AND SR Citizens. Already PENSION issue is a Heavy Burden if COMPARED with those majority striving with paucity. more
