CRUNCH IN ECONOMY

Lockdown is gradually being lowered. Unlock is being initiated. Economic stimulus also are in place. A kind of future is being chartered for us Indians post Covid19. Will everything be alright then?.

I think we may encounter a crunch in the coming months. PM requested that salary be not cut for employees, maids and such other labourers.

For the last two months, while there was no revenue for many of the Industries, they dutifully paid salaries to the employees, may be out of their reserves. Money circulation is now affected. This may bring a cash crunch in the next few months. Credit scheme, as announced by the Government is laudable, but will the revenue in the coming months suffice to take care of regular salaries, expenses as well as payback loans?. Doubtful.

There are many sectors where there has been no income and probably no reserves to pay salaries/wages. Examples; Hotels, small manufacturers, film industry artists, malls, property rentals, ironwallahs, restaurants etc. At the same time there have been industries where there were some activities and therefore some revenue at least to take care of wages and necessities such as Pharmaceuticals, medical equipments, medical stores, provision stores, agriculture, vegetable markets, chemical items like sanitizers etc.

Covid19 chart has to give rise to a graph of how much of economic activity is likely to revive in the next 6 months. Based on such a graph, policies of money markets will have to be managed. Cash flow has to be managed to those sectors which are affected rather than a blanket cover for all types of MSMEs, small scale manufacturers etc. more

Mr. Venkata Raman has nailed it. Whatever he has stated is true. How can we senior citizens pay our domestic helps when we have to do the work by ourselves and cannot afford to pay them. Once again the PM has played Robin Hood by fleecing the middle class and enriching the poor. more
Forget about industries which are not earning anything due to no manufacturing activities(Every industry cannot work from home),please spare a thought about the millions of retired senior citizens, other than government retirees, who do not get any pension from their jobs and are only dependent on the income earned through fixed deposit interests, interests on senior citizen savings schemes and post office monthly and other income schemes, dividends from shares and mutual funds etc. These unfortunate people, many of whom still have many family responsibilities like children's education, daughter's marriages, health issues etc apart from earning the daily bread for their families; Their monthly incomes from above sources have been drastically slashed due to a drastic reduction in bank interests, reduction in interest on postal schemes and senior citizen schemes, tax re introduction on dividends ,etc etc, which have left them not only poorer but also shaken as their life is being snuffed out by lesser and lesser money available to them. These poor senior citizens, also by compulsion, have to engage domestic helps, cooks etc as they are unable to do these chores themselves and their family members are say not staying with them for any reason. Now with domestic help and cooks etc not coming to work, what are these people supposed to do?They can't keep paying salaries to the helps when they themselves are in dire financial straits. The government should re think about such people and increase the interest on deposits ,remove tax on dividends etc only for such people, say if their annual income is below a particular and reasonable thresh hold, not the tax slabs as they exist. Nothing is done for the middle class who is struggling very hard to survive. For other younger population also, the taxes on dividends from mutual funds and shares should be waived off say upto 2-3 lakhs of dividend income per annum provided their gross annual income does not exceed say 20 Lakhs per annum, say and other similar measures. If you kill the goose in the hope of getting all the golden eggs in one go,you will end up getting nothing. more

We will have to wait and see the extent of revival- let us be optimistic and attack the problem with vigor & sense of urgency - be sure we will come out victorious at least some of us who have the will to fight back more

Yes, it is a fact that there are many sectors where there has been no income and probably no reserves to pay salaries/wages. All such sectors are not eligible for stimulus package. Hence, the economy is going to be affected. more
