Dark Pattern on Instagram/Youtube/Snapchat

LocalCircles has been doing some super excellent work in the area of identifying manipulation or dark patterns with different apps with our inputs.

I find that youtube instagram do lot of manipulation of kids. They have algorithms that make these platforms addictive and they use a lot of obscene content at times to addict children.

Can we share our inputs and LC manager take that up for broader survey.

Lot of parents will thank u if such malpractices stop. more

Social Media is a big business. Like all businesses it has its ways and means. Technology and intelligence is used to influence people. No one forced anyone into it. Everyone has got hooked to it voluntarily. As a consumer of social media one must remember the age-old doctrine "Caveat Emptor" or buyer's beware. Why do we expect to have a nanny or be spoon fed into everything? Why do we park our intellect and believe or subscribe to anything? As humans we are expected to exercise discretion in our acts. We have the skills to seek support of people around us to help us navigate social media. As far as children are concerned the onus falls on parents and educators to ensure that the children are able to navigate through the new world order. Curbing social media or expecting bans is not a right choice as people will find a way around it. I would rather not have the government getting in these matters and make a mess of it. more
No surprise in this fact. Many of us older parents have faced that and have dealt with it with good parenting. This is not the job of government. Stop asking for others to deal with it, Social media is here to stay. We all have to learn to deal with it. more
Youtube-Reels like facebook or X need some close monitoring for complicated political Regions like India. more
I feel facebook,Whatsapp and instagram are the most destructive with too many fake posts and other addictive content. India.s productivity will increase if these are made to display the person posting the content even if the conternt is frowarded and not avatars more
