Encroachment of Railway Land - Addl Inputs
The following encroachments of Railway land have been reported by you. If there are any others, kindly share. We will soon put a comprehensive list together for our leadership for their review and actions.
Encroachment of Railway Land (as reported by community)
1. Kilometres before we reach Delhi stations, both the sides are occupied with clusters
2. The entire stretch of land at least of 10 feet width and length from near Mandaveli MRTS Railway station till Greenways Road Railway Station has been encroached by squatters, auto repair shops etc.
3. In Kochi, Ernakulam old railway station had 40 acers of land. Now the station is not operational and 3 acers of land is missing and there are 20 houses in this land which are illegal
4. In Dombivli there are vast stretches of railway land on either side of Thakurli station which has become highly vulnerable for encroachment. On the eastside land is already encroached by hutments and residential buildings
5. If one travels from Tirupati ( A.P) to Chennai ( T.N), throughout the travel on both the sides of tracks we can see Railway pillars fixed and cultivation is taking place
6. There are slum areas within 1.5 meters of Railway line in Sealdah South, North & Main Section. There is also dangerous encroachment in Circular Railway Line which are safety hazards for both the encroachers and Railway
7. In JABALPUR when one moves from JABALPUR MAIN STATION towards MADAN MAHAL STATION one can see slums encroaching upon railway land on the slopes of the tracks
8. Railway line falling from Bairagarh of WR to  Bhopal to Hbj of WCR - there is huge encroachment on railway land
9. In Siliguri, New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling as well, hundreds of acres of Railway land have been illegally encroached for decades
10. In Vijayawada-Guntur lane neat the track which connects the branch line into the main line (MAS-HWH), much land is occupied and some are rising crops there, even though it is earmarked as SCR property
11. In Delhi National Capital itself has very much encroachments near railway track of Delhi Rohtak Section up to Ghevra-Bahadurgarh starting from Delhi Kishanganj
12. In Mumbai starting from Dahanu till Dadar station we can find 100s of encroachments on Railway land. more

In Eastern Railway Sealdah Division (Main: Sealdah to Ranaghat line ) a big Railway Jheel (Pond) along the side of Railway-line approximately more than 1 km between 19 Railway Gate and 20 No. Railway gate are gradually covered by garbage material and growing shrubs . It is apprehended this vast land belonging to the Eastern Railway property will soon be encroached by unscrupulous people . Railway authority should take proper action to prevent encroachment . more

In many european countries the railway land is not accessible by some fence. And the whole track zone is full of stone and uplifted to the rural land for stability reasons, for instant rain draining from the track zone. And this high elevated train track zone full of stone is so uncomfortable that locals won't cross the tracks; enough level crossings do the job and securised by at least red blinking lights when train is coming.... I won't say it can be immediately implicated along the many km railways in India, but at least fence should exist in urban zone along the tracks. more

The encroachment of railway land anywhere in India since been continued, supported indirectly by earlier Railway staff or the occupied persons may be relative. The honest and actual solution is to take monthly rent from them as per Govt instr / rule as stated for per Square meter rate of different cities with 11 months agreement for the great source of income of our Indian Railways. more

Simply crying for population will not solve the problem, On one side we talk that one community is going to be out numbered by another minority community. Let us talk only for railway. I am of opinion that 1st Railways should start selling their used rails and Steel gauges (Steel scrap) lying every where all along rail through out India with these money only Toilets can be made better on Plate forms. more
