Excellent assessment of power outages in India

So the below LocalCircles survey I read on Bloomberg International says 38% households in India are still facing daily outages.

I being a Noida resident can validate that, my Gurugram friends are probably worse off but what is more puzzling is the newspaper media of the country is mum. Their loyalties are towards governments and power companies so they would rather not publish information about outages.

Today I agree with messages I think fellow members have been posting “newspapers are ensuring their own demise”

The problem is bigger than what it is made out to be. We need to somehow do our bit to prevent increase in ambient temperatures. As far as power is concerned, a lot more is needed to ensure that the entire country gets uninterrupted power at an economical price. However, as long as there is a skew in tariffs and taxes, imbalance in generation resources across the country, this is going to get worse as time passes. Politics of giving free power, lack of affordability by a large section of the population, socialistic pricing policies are all deterimental to the growth and sustenance of the power sector. The entire power supply infrastructure needs a massive overhaul as well. More than 90% of the country is served through ancient pylons, archaic transformers, sub-stations and overhead lines. Most of these guzzle power only in transmission. Efficient transmission systems that are below ground must come in and this sector needs change on war-footing. Mere political rhetoric will take us to doom in a few years if we remain complacent. more
TRUE. Generation of electricity depends either on water and coal. Both are in scares. Some neighboring or developing countries are sailing in same boat. Solar energy availability is more than other sources. Solar energy can be developed in every house hold. more
Manuel Aaron: Governments, by law, need to advertise in newspapers for different matters. I believe that they have the power to choose the newspapers in which to advertise, and in which not to advertise. Naturally Governments would not choose to advertise in newspapers which reveal the truth about the lack of electricity, roads, water, and other essentials which the Government is supposed to provide its citizens. Al political parties spend tons of money on elections, they have to recoup it somewhere. A benign dictatorship could be good for us! more
people talk a lot on water/electricity etc but ground reality is when one goes to the villages slightly remote they can see still people not having electricity.these are all election gimmics.Inspite of have been independent since 75 yrs still on the basic necessities we only hear talk about it but no work only the present govt is doing a little bit.yesterday i was seeing a tv channel which showed that there is a village in mp where people go miles to get water in the only well risking their lives and also that is dirty water and the local mla/mp do nothing and their funds are utilised for their families welfare and they were showing in stark contrast where big shots have swimming pool in their apts/houses where water is wasted.Stark reality . more
A few days ago, I saw a video that showed that the current PM of India is vigorously pursing/engaging in some kind of world consortium to build infrastructure and share solar power with participating countries. At that time, I was thinking that the PM must first take care of the domestic needs of electricity. I didn't know at that time if has an uninterrupted power for the people. From this article, India still has that problem. Not enough if Mumbai, or any other large cities don't have that problem. All the best, India. more
