I find regularly a charge known as clerkage charges being levied for cancellation of waitlisted/RAC e-tickets. Here no clercks are involved, so why is this charge? Also for confirmed tickets both booking and cancellation is done by the passenger himself they why this exorbitant charges? To move customer to e-tickets from counter or physical tickets, there should be low cancellation or clerkage charges for e-tickets. This was railway saves by optimizing resources and people gets the benefits. more
This was the brain child of the erstwhile railway minister Suresh Prabhu, who unjustifiably enhanced the reservation period from existing 2 months to 4 months and simultaneously increased the cancellation charges of confirmed tickets 3 times from Rs.60/- per ticket to Rs.180/-. This was an eye wash to make us fool indicating that despite incurring losses, the railways being passengers friendly didn't make any increase in rail fare. Since the reservation period was increased, it has become very difficult for the genuine passengers to get a confirmed ticket in the event of failing to make the booking immediately on opening the reservation. With the result, people even without specific travelling programmes prefer to reserve seats for any conjectured dates and ultimately opt for cancellation. Thus the railways earn its substantial revenues through cancellation of tickets because of high cancellation charges & sudden increase in the instances of cancellation. Till few years back 100% of the ticket amounts were being refunded on cancelling the wait listed tickets, which has been changed by the present government. Will the present ministry look into these issues and revert back to earlier system, ie, reduce the cancellation charges, reduce the reservation period from 4 months to sixty days and refund the entire amount on cancellation of the wait listed tickets? If needed he may consider reasonable increase in the fare of all classes in an honest way instead of earning through back doors making the passengers annoyed ! more
Cancellation charges are very high. The reason I feel because of the adv. reservation period of four months. After making a reservation, anything untoward can happen in the family in this period. Then there is no other option other than cancelling. So the cancellation is high. Railways thinking to gain money as a businessman not thinking in terms of helping common man!!!! more
