Failed Weather Forecasters of India

The IMD Indias meteorological department is a class example of failure of capability. 3 times in a row its given wrong forecast for monsoon arrival in Delhi and north India.

These guys have so badly predicted this years monsoon. Private forecasters like skymet etc are equally bad and have got it wrong too.

Foreign countries are able to predict weather right 90% times and our IMD is right may be 30% of the times as best.

This august group should discuss what should be done to enhance Indias weather prediction capability.

So much agriculture is dependent on it and if we get this right it can increase earnings of poor farmers and India’s GDP. more

Vedic astrology our age old science is much more capable of predicting weather situation anywhere in world....i am very much interested to participate in creating better model using vedic astrology and current science. I am practicing vedic astrology since last 5 years and doing rigorous research on that, though my interest in vedic science is from childhood. My qualification in western education is M.Tech from IIT(kgp) in Instrumentation. more
Rest of the free world it is not governments job to do so. Make India to do that. more
So what do you want the government to do play baby sitter? Private weather predictors should get in the market and sell real weather to private radio and TV stations and give real time, accurate weather to the farm info section every day. more
Climate in our country is not uniform and given the variations in factors involving rain, the country wide rather state wide predictions cannot hold good for districts and or tehsil leave aside the villages. But mind well the predictions of the elders in the village community never fail the villagers. The toiling farmers who badly depend on rain waters depend more on tube wells bore wells and or village community sources of water.Had they relied on weather forecasts they would have vanished long back.It is the overall ununiform supply of water which is to be blamed more
I think the department should be more equipped and a better network of equipment should be through out India and the department should have better co-ordination with other countries too. It is unfortunate that this aspect was ignored continuously. Even in the name of Weather forecast our TV channel show Temp. of different cities and that too not correct. There should be a web based system which is updated continuously. Weather bulletins should be issued hourly, daily, weekly and monthly basis. more
