Flawed recommendations of CPCB

For individuals and domestic use, the CPCB has fixed a minimum fine Rs. 10,000. Besides, one has to pay Rs. 100 per day for extracting groundwater from “overexploited, critical and semi-critical” and Rs. 50 per day for those living in areas categorised as safe for groundwater use.

The CPCB has recommended a minimum penalty of Rs. 50,000 for institutions, commercial complexes and townships. There will differential rates based on two parameters — the highest for exploited blocks and lowest for safe zones. The amount will increase depending on extraction of groundwater.

However, agricluture sector uses 85% of the ground water and there are no penalties on them at all.

How can CPCB draw up recommendations without even talking to people of India. Flawed approach. more

CPCB stands for Central Pollution Control Board. It is an Act to provide for the prevention and control of water pollution and the maintaining or restoring of wholesomeness of water..... How this Act gets connected with allowing/prevention of drawing water from underground is a mystery..... Maybe a member could throw some light...... more

Rates are too high for Domestic use for poor and Middle class families. It can be Rs. 250/- to Rs. 500/ per month. Do CPCB provide water if Bore go dry - It is not reasonable - Think more sensible alternative like linking river waters. Provide Physically and then collect. I spent Lakhs and drilled bore. Spending for Bore Motor and Pump. Spend Money on power too. Why we should pay. It will create social disturbance. more
Extensive use of technological solutions for water management is the long term solution for water woes. Lessons from countries like Israel should be learnt and used with suitable modifications to suit our conditions. more
