Forced Land Acquisition - Issues

As many of you know, LocalCircles has been active on the issues of forced land acquisition since 2018. The Right to Fair Compensation RFCTLARR act 2013 and the NHAI notification govern the award of fair compensation to the land owner, many of who depend on it for their livelihoods.

Some of you over the last 6 months have shared how many commissioners/local administrators are issuing orders ignoring the clauses of this law and notifications, against the rights of the individuals whose land has been acquired. If you or your family members are facing the same, kindly share as much detail as possible so this issue can be escalated at the highest levels of the Government.

We look forward to your inputs! more

Govt. is already paying 4 times of the market value. Still some NGOs/Political parties are instigating the land owners to go on protest and demand more otherwise stop the construction. After all, the development will take place on land only and not in the sky. The land owners should also be offered alternate land so that the do not waste their sale proceeds in luxuries and turn popper after few years. It is very difficult for such persons to use the money properly as they virtually turn mad after getting large amounts in one go. more
SC shall direct on Citizens Responsibility over Livelihood infra. People Shall handover Acquisitioned Land at Govt Market Rate. It is their Fundamental Responsibility towards Society, Nation. more
Livelihood infra demands inevitable Land Acquisition and People to Surrender at Govt Market Rate . Citizens Responsibility Shall not be ignored. more
There is nexus between local MLA, Local corporation and to grab lands, they keep on planning (like the movies) for years till they get success. If required, they even change the local Map and Layouts. We have proof in hand and fighting against it to protect our legitimate property for years. The Hyenas are just waiting for a suitable time. more
My extended family (farmers, environment, economically poorer people, non-humans.....) are suffering the brunt of land acquisition and so called development. Money cannot compensate for lost livelihoods and environmental destruction. We can see it in every city, town, island where greenery and other natural spaces is being replaced with concrete. NITI Aayog's mantra for development is simple and destructive - concretize. Land in forests is being earmarked for construction. It is not that animals are terrorising humans in villages, we have made them a terror by taking away their habitat. Lakes, rivers, coasts are being earmarked for construction. We are seeing the results- floods, drought, pollution. The centre asks the farmers to grow cash crops. This is luxury. Instead, they need to be giving them all possible support in growing and selling their produce. Not snatch away their land. And the concept of govt land can be used at the whims and fancies of the govt has to go. It is the politicians who are to be blamed, more than the govt officials, for the officials dance to the tune of the politicians. more
In the name of development many corrupt politicians and beurocrats are indulging in land acquisition and cheating the poor. more
