Getting low value products from abroad becoming difficult

The requirements of courier guys who deliver stuff from abroad and GOI requirements for receiving products like books from abroad are becoming increasingly difficult. This is crazy regulation in miniature. A publisher sent me something. Notice arrives weeks later that book is being returned for incomplete KYC.

I dutifully upload Aadhar. But that is not word of God. I am asked to explain my institutional affiliation. Which I do and upload it. Then I am asked to do again it on a letterhead, signed and stamped by the institution and it should say "INDIVIDUAL IMPORTING FOR PERSONAL USE AT UNIVERSITY" What does that even mean?

I have been unable to receive books publishers have sent including with your own contributions. Several books have been returned. Often publishers review copies are returned (sometimes a publisher will not have your phone number, Half the world does not understand why address is not enough to send anything in India). It is in miniature an illustration of why private investment will not take off in India without government patronage -- too much regulation, no cost benefit analysis, non application of mind by officials, harassment of citizens and for what --- books that might be 40 or 50 dollars at most? more

hello, It seems that you dont have proper knowledge or procedural route for the import . There is No such restrictions. And Peoples who are blaming Govt. is useless & social media addicts. Instead of doing anything just cry on social media & expect that Govt. Should do everything. Then what is your duty ??? There are Some books & publishers In Govt. Black list. If You import You will face trouble. I am getting Magazines regularly since last 30 years without any hurdles. more
This is why one should think before voting and accepting many promises. more
bureaucracy at its worst in action.Great guns who is responsible for this mess is this commerce minister or external affairs minister god only knows and each will try to shift the blame to others that is why there are loopholes in the law so that there will be no accountability unlike private sector more
If you had asked all the details of the person who is asking you to send the details, you may have received your item. There is some scam for extracting money. Demand their name, address, phone number and anything else. I know it looks like a hassle; it works. more
I transfer money from US to India using Zoom (part of Paypal), No issue. more
