Govt must crack down on HRA fraud

Wife who works in HR of an Indian company tells me how 50-60% employees in the corporates submit fake HRA receipts, many of them take it from a family member. In some other cases it is self made receipt.

The Government must crack down on this and it will be able to get a sizable amount as taxes.

Also employers tend to turn a blind eye to these receipts (they know they are fake)

This, crackdown, is micromanaging. Holistic solution like corporates telling the HRA availing employees to submit concomitant Rent Agreements anyone? BTW, government gets sizeable tax, in GST (Lakhs of crores rupees monthly) Okay? more
No fraud in submitting HRA receipts. Receiver's income accounted. more
HRA is a smaller part of IT payers. What about politicians' income? Hope everyone remembers Ms. Supriya Sule growing brinjals of 100 crores and Mr. P Chidambaram growing cauliflower worth crores! more
Agree Tax evasion is a crime. But India has got double taxation system. A salaried person 1st get Income tax deducted salary then we have to pay taxes in terms of GST, VAT, Excise duty, Cess, Pension cess, Energy tax etc etc etc. A B-grade govt officer is earning higher than a 20 years experience pvt employee though govt employees hardly update their skillset whereas in pvt sector most of the people have to keep updated their skills else you have to stand in firing Q. I am trying to say govt hardly cuts their expenses/budget, whereas a pvt employee has to adjust most of the time. Why we have to suffer bcz of govt inefficiencies. What is social security system in India for handicaps, elders, unemployed. In Europe or other forward countries, govt charge 40-50% taxes, but their Social security system is robust. Govt is levied heavy taxes hence one wants to avoid taxes. The best taxation system is TBT-Transaction based Tax, only 1% is enough. A very few will have concern on this. No income tax or GST or any other revenue collection department are required and huge workforce can be used for other good deeds. more
