Govt selling Citizen Data

The government has approved a Bulk Data Sharing policy through which automobile researchers and organisations can buy vehicle registration data, in order to benefit the “transport and automobile industry”. Starting next fiscal, eligible bodies will be able to purchase the data for Rs 3 crore while ensuring strict security steps to prevent theft or transfer, according to the policy approved by the government.

So the Govt will sell your vehicle registration data and if you talk to any data scientist or analyst they can take two spreadsheets and do a bit of matching and soon against the vehicle will be your name, pan number, phone number address mah be even credit card.

This has to be opposed friends. more

Highly improper to sell data of Indian Citizen without our consent. more
Government is doing a good job. There is no privacy issue here. Infact it is more safer than FB, WhatsApp and Instagram. I want to see a day where using this data Government or its approved agencies put on board all those who intentionally violate the motor/traffic rules, which can be publicly seen or even shown in cinema theatres of how people or violating the traffic rules. more
Correctly analyzed and apprised please. more
AP Government has shown the way and it is sample to show the future what they are going to do if elected more
Yes. Our data is private and we have consented to share with anyone for business purpose. more
"Data sharing like this is inevitable, and has long term benefits to the country" - Ridiculous . How even educated people talk like this? When terrorism is increasing and passports are being manipulated, Data sharing with our bio metric data will make their job much easier If such information is intentionally left in a wrong place, we will unnecessarily be detained and questioned by the authorities concerned who re looking for some scapegoats, to finish the case on hand. There is a news article which states that SC has reverted a death sentence wrongly awarded to some people after 16 years, because of false implication/judgement. Will we be lucky if we get into such a situation because of this data availability to some wrong guy? No political party is aware of this move till date and no local news paper is saying anything about this Their current focus is on Rafale and Balkot and minority people .............................which is not of much interest to common men This is aid to be a prelude to several other "Reforms" that this idiotic Govt. intend to implement and will surly do if comes to power next time like "Computerized All India level toll collection, which includes RTO operations in full. Ban on out dated vehicles to stop pollution so that you can surrender your vehicles after its life period to some agencies who will estimate as to how much you should be paid and like One of my friend said "Unfortunately we do not have a good leader to be elected All are jokers and looters GOD only can save us " May be he is true more
Dear Mr. Rama Moorhti,
I live in Canada. We have availability of data on motor vehicles and drivers and their accidents, etc. If I want to buy a used vehicle, I get data on the vehicle’s history since new, including all accidents and repairs it has undergone, and who the owners were in the past. It helps me decide if it is a stolen car or if it had more damage than disclosed by the current salesperson, etc.
This information has been made available to the Canadian public for at least 20 years. I am not sure about USA, but I expect the same disclosure rules apply to USA and Europe.
There are many a bad practice and social fad practiced in India by copying the west. I think the disclosures implied in the proposed legislature is a positive one. more
