GST for non-electricity based water purifiers

GST does not list water purifiers in right category. 8421 is for industrial category, or air and liquid purifications systems. many emails, tweet, fb comment to all concerned ministry and the GST council evinced no response. We sell non-electricity based stand alone water purifiers and vat was 5 % and we were selling it less than 1000 rupees so that poor people can afford to buy the purifier. Now as water purifier or filter does not even come in the list, ut mentioned under wrong category the GST is 18% which is very high and has made the ilter cost go up y almost 150 rs more. Even if we do not rise prices, and earn hardly a margin of 50 rupees a filter, we end up paying government for HST 150 RUPEES or more. Why the department is not replying to my queries is a puzzle. Request honourable P.M to intervene and reduce the GST to 5 % or even exempt the non-electricity based water purifiers so that it benefits the rural poor and urban middle class and salaried people to afford to buy a purifier to have potable water. more

Yes, you are right. Such anomalies are vexing. Will this product will qualify for HSN 84191910, having product name - 'non electrical domestic type'? As of now, GST rate for this HSN is 'yet to be finalised'. Could it mean zero percent GST, at least at present? You may check with your CA and take guidance. more
we checked all codes, as the boy is made of food grade plastics, they also blindly attract 18 percent, so no relief more
These are products used by common people and hence must be exempted from GST. Everyone knows that we cannot drink water directly from any water source as they are all contaminated and hence these economical purifiers are to be encouraged for common man by not charging GST. more
I think you can adopt a more beneficial HSN Classification based on what your device is made of, rather than its purpose. Especially since it does not use power and as such should NOT be classified as a machine. more
Water and air purifier used for home should come 0%. Maximum should be 5%. more
