GSTR 1 filing deadline for Aug 2017

Today, I tried to file GSTR 1 for AUG 2017 because the deadline is 5/10/2017 as per the GST Returns portal. After uploading and updating the data, when I clicled on the "Submit" button, I got an error message "GSTR 1 save/action on counterparty invoices/submit are not allowed for current date. Please visit www.gst.gov.in for details on GSTR 1 timelines".
It seems that although the returns portal mentions deadline for filing GSTR 1 for Aug 2017 is 5/10/2017, the final date is not yet updated in the system. Only by visiting www.gst.gov.in, we can get this information.
Now, why is it that the due date on the returns portal is shown as 5/10/2017 while the GST website states that it's yet to be announced ? Can both websites not provide the same information ?
Secondly, how is a small taxpayer supposed to figure out the meaning of such a complicated error message which I have mentioned above in quotes?
Is it not possible for the government to provide a simple message e.g. "Due date for filing of GSTR 1 for August 2017 has not been finalised. Please wait for announcement of the due date and file after the date is announced".
Simple steps like these can save a lot of stress and tension for the taxpayer and make GST return filing a bit more user friendly.
Hope someone in the Govt. reads and implements such simple steps. more

To ALL Mr.Satish Shenoy has given a practical suggestion for GST to act. Congrats to Mr.Satish.Such inputs are more important .GST should provide all info required on the portal where dealer is login for his work more
5.10.2017 is the deadline for July 2017. Portal to file August 2017 return not yet opened. more
July Dates are being being Modified as 10th October 31st October and 10th November August Date for Return yet to be notified more
GSTR -1 for July'17 itself last date of return filing is 10.10.2017 more
Dear Satish sir, request to note that 1] on visiting https:\\www.gst.gov.in one will read "TBU" it means the authorities does not have time to write full text of "TBU" or 2] they want us update our knowledge by adding one abbreviation "TBU". Even after expiry of 90 days since the introduction of GST with mid night function is unable to provide facilities of uploading returns. Why assessees keep on visiting gst portal for various due dates? If assessee failed to discharge his obligations which are depending upon oneline facilities to be provided by GST authoriteis and vimsical internet facilities is penalised automatically by way of interest, additional fees and penalty. Why the government staff or service provider [if not govt staff] be penalised at least the same way the assessee is for not discharging their obligations on or before due date fixed by the authorities without consulting the assessees? In stead they are paid their salaries / contract value regularly. Our brothers in legal service need to knock the doors of judiciary to fix the issue. more
