Goods Transport by Railways 1 There is a need to analyse the present working system in Goods Offices and carry out major rationalisation of the working methods. 2 The office working should be computerised. 3 The system should be more customer friendly. 4 It should be possible to track movement of goods ( at least full containers ) on-line. 5 There should be pro-active action against corruption. 6 Goods lying on the platform is a common site. It should be possible to move the goods to a secure place immediately after unloading from the wagon / Parcel Van. more

Most of the people used to opine that sending goods by railways is safe, secure and reliable. But all these kinds of faith have vanquished over past ~20 years. One of the reasons being irresponsible behaviour of concerned railway staff. The staff appears to be captive of private agents. No harm if some is benefited, but rudeness is not much tolerable. For middle and lower income group people, it has to be savour of them. Allowing some person in the guise of putting their luggage secure by influencing rail staff should be stopped, as this is one of the reason of mishandling of others luggage. I personally believe believe that like transport by lorries those goods also may be got packed. It is safe way of handling goods. If need be on the stations itself, a packer be provided ( not employee ). If it is not done, railway SLR may not get proper use. Generally, bikes are taken in passenger trains. The responsibility may be given to the person concerned. In other words, handling of goods can be given to private players on contractual basis.
