Quality of items sold by hawkers as well as by some pantry cars attached to the train has been found again and again. For example (1) hawkers selling fried snacks on the platform, keep what ever is left unsold in henight, refry it just before the first train steams in and sell it to the passengers. If some one falls ill it will be known only after he has gone far away. (2). Sellers of tea add very little milk, tea, and sugar {hopefully not some other chemicals in place of these} just worm the mixture, never boil it and sell it to the passengers; this is specially the case with trains coming in at night in winter. (2) the quantity of tea is always less that fixed by authorities while fixing the price, or a hire price is charged. Normally the local railway staff is too busy in their own duty to pay any attention to these things. The RPF personnel get free snacks and tea (specially made for them and of good quality) for turning a blind eye to all this. Passengers are generally in a hurry to catch their train, afraid that no one will support them as they may know no one there or they have little time as their train may be leaving. THIS CAN BE RECTIFIED ONLY IF SURPRISE INSPECTIONS AND CHECKINGS ARE CARRIED OUT. tHE ELECTRONIC MEDIA (TV CHANNELS) MUST BE ENCOURAGED TO DO THIS AS APART OF THEIR DUTY TO THE SOCIETY. more

I am Mukund Bhat, & Thanks for the efforts taken by the Railways for the food items supplied by hawkers and contractors. My suggestion is that some more concentration to be given for the higenic especially in the food items and cleanliness in the toilets . And of course more unauthorized / Inproper Tickles persons are crowded near the toilet areas. kindly this also to be rectified. Thanking you Sir, Mukund Bhat more

IRCTC is the nodal agency for providing the catering services to the Railways on trains as well as platforms. Besides this there are other licensed catering agencies, book shops, etc. licensed to sell goods on the platform. It should be ideal that IRCTC is given the entire services in the platforms and trains for all services and IRCTC registered vendors should only operate with railways. This will bring all the vendor services under one umbrella and railways need not take the head ache of the vendor services in trains and platforms and better utilize their resources for their core service of operations and maintenance of railway system. more

Railways should make the concerned RPF head of that area responsible if any unauthorized vendors are found in railway premises. more
