Himalayan blunder

Highway on the Himalayan terrain for char dham pilgrims, originally proposed by the government and rejected by the Supreme court. Now, the govt says it is required for National security ( the new jargon that the govt has coined in the name of development when genuine concerns are raised about the environment).
Absolutely no concern for the environment and disasters that have happened in the recent past because of destructive construction.
The pilgrim visits to these shrines have become more of a social status and show off, rather than bhakti. It is just "See, I have also been there". When there are thousands of temples, many of them ancient with rich history and which do not need any environmental destruction to reach them, what is the need for such roads and other concrete structures in these fragile regions?
As for security, there must be better ways of ensuring security than by destroying the environment and posing a hazard to those who live there. more

We all are suffering because of construction job in the Himalayas & rest of India.Destroying nature to visit comfortably the religious place is not good.Nature should be protected & not destroyed. We human beings are the one who are hell bent upon destruction more
Work should go on but more cautiously. Even new Technologies can be used to prevent losses/casualities. more
Not aware when Hon'ble Supreme Court has ever rejected. Irrespective of whether you make motorable roads or not, People including my family will go there at least once in life time. In a Hindu dominated country, where Government funds Haj pilgrimage, it is highly improper to make the people walk several kilometers. In fact, these infrastructure projects should have been top priority. Irrespective of preservation of present topography or disturbing it, there will be land slides, which are natural ecoological disturbances. A developing economy might as well disturb and rearrange ecology in the best interest of flora and founa. All such works must be completed on priority. more
The problem with our rulers is whether its central or state level nuts, they all take any ruling against their wishes as an Insult. Even if its from the Highest Court, they think they are the law. We are afraid of our Neighbouring countries and we don't have the mental strength like Israel to fight. China is sitting on our land and calling us for peace talks!!!!!! This is called SECURITY. more
Religious places in Himalayas are becoming places of tourist interest. A good number of tourist to those places are there not from religious angle but for other purposes. As far as environment is concerned all possible care should be taken to maintain it by planting more trees and stopping exploitation of forest area in the effected region. more
