Impractical policies of road ministry

I was just watching LocalCircles CEO on ET now channel where the 6 air bag rule was being debated.

One thing he said made a lot of sense to me “The Govt and media and industry are all debating whether new cars should have 6 airbags but focus needs to be on whether seat belts and air bags in existing cars on the road are functional”

I think the show anchor did not get the point. 0.1-0.2% of car owners will buy a new car with 6 air bag when they next year but almost all would be using their existing cars and hence if govt is so keen on safety of consumers they should get OEMs to conduct safety check camps”

If i go for one free air bag check and seat belt check chances are i will get some service work done too, so oem gets revenue i get assurance and any fixes on safety front.

We should escalate this demand and that way every car has working seat belt and air bags and the same is validated!!!

Drivers are to be educated first, specially the Truck Drivers. Govt has to improve Road Conditions, with proper Foot paths and no encroachment. Repeat Offenders Licence must be Revoked. more
Government should not regulate and mandate this sort of stuff. more
Instead of putting too much premium on 6 air bags, we should improve conditions and educate drivers about safety norms. more
Everything is fine, but what about path holes and discrepancies in the roads design, who will monitor this and who is responsible for wrong doers. more
Govt cannot remove existing cars on road. But it has taken the right step in improving safety by mandating 6 airbags for newly manufactured vehicles. So, what is the issue? Once the old vehicles are off-road, new vehicles will be safe more
