Privatisation is the order of the day. When people get secured job, they don't work sincerely. They need fire inside the belly, hence retiring rooms and other facilities available with the Railways can be given to private agencies on income sharing basis. They must keep minimum standards and penalties if not maintained properly will improve the situation drastically. Also monitoring authorities to be monitored vigilantly. more
let the use to restricted only to bonafied passengers & not for GRP & Railway staff on duty especially night. more
I used retiring rooms in Udupi and Vizag. Comments below-- Bathrooms must have functional taps. Beds must be bug free. This is a big problem. Hotels avoid this apparently by covering with a protective plastic cover so the bugs stay inside. There must be adequate linen. (There were no white sheets in Vizag) Newer rooms are quite nice but the older ones (R2) are terrible. Uniformity in amenities, please. In the longer term some effort to make the retiring rooms sound proof-- announcements go on all night. The path to the room must be clean and well lit, free of sand, cement debris or discarded sanitaryware (Udupi). more
