Improving Safety with Firecrackers

In light of the recent accident in Kerala temple due to firecrackers, below are some of your key inputs on what needs to be done to minimize incidents related to fire crackers in India. Kindly review and if you have additional specific inputs, please share.

We will soon be compiling the same and circulating with stakeholders across India.

Improving Safety with Fire Crackers

1. Permission from the local police station should be taken before large firework events
2. Anybody buying crackers for over Rs 50,000 should be required to show a permission from the local police station
3. Before permission is granted, it should be ensured that adequate fire-fighting arrangements are available and that fire stations can easily reach the place in case of need
4. On sale of the firecrackers above Rs. 50,000, the seller must ask for an identity proof of the buyer and should immediately inform the local police station about the sale
5. Fireworks should always be stored at least 100 meters away from the actual place of gathering
6. Fireworks should always be conducted in an open area and at least 200 meters away from the crowd
7. Crackers for fireworks display should be brought only from Government approved companies
8. An ambulance and fire brigade should always be present at the scene of large fireworks at religious places or social events
9. It should be made illegal for the user to store the crackers for more than 3 days before the event/festival
10. An environmental cess should be put on fireworks exceeding 15 minutes
11. The existing fire safety laws should be strictly implemented
12. Sound pollution level should be fixed and above harmful noised cracker should not be allowed even if they are being manufactured
13. The packaging of fire crackers should indicate for very small, small and large areas (parks, near rivers, sea, deserts etc.) more

YES I DO THINK THAT CRACKERS SHOULD BE TOTALLY BANNED more
Crackers should be restricted. They are the cause of accidents aS WELL BIG SOURCE OF AIR POLUTION more
Sir, The root cause is "Indian Population Explosion" in the absence of 'Social Security' to Small Families ... So, there is Zero Value for Lose of Life in India ... Just Look Around. Once, so-called "Politicians-Bureaucrat Nexus" STOP LOOTING the Country ... will they think of hapless General Public ... Till than Suffer in Silence .... OR ... May be 'Keep Writing on Local Circles'... Bharat Mata Ki Jai Ho !!! more
It is commonly seen that people burst firecrackers on public roads during marriage procession or religious processions. Even the supporters of political parties celebrate the victory in elections by bursting firecrackers on public roads. This must be strictly banned as it can be dangerous for passerbys. Recently a large number of severe accidents have happened due to the new mania of firing guns at weddings. This menace must be nipped in the bud. more
An insurance premium should be charged for likely damage to property and life. more
