Improving Train Timeliness: Additional Inputs

Points indicated are very resolute and are steps immediate implementation with suitability in the condition. Hypothetical thoughts and actual pains of Railways and user passengers need to be redressed simultaneously. Yes, it is a fact that in busy terminal stations or cities having link with a number of places and Metro cities experience a lot time while receiving a train in peak hours. Say in Howrah or Sealdah it has my experience every long distance train has to wait at least for 10-15 minutes before placing the train on platform. Some times reaching destination people do miss important commitments, delayed in reaching home or taking next mode of transport. I think remarkable improvement can be achieved if the trains pushing towards terminal station are short terminated by creating new terminals a few KMs before the actual destination. In that facilities for further movement of passenger from that link station may be created and it will also thus improve the socio-economic environment of the area.
Doubling track capacity is not possible or may not be feasible as simultaneous creation of signal and train receiving and departure system may be required to be created in most the already existing important rail terminals.
I think in Sealdah station at least train departure and receiving can be handled at its South Section by using existing tracks to the South Sealdah Section.
Similarly, at Dankuni some trains can be terminated to avail the vast space lying vacant in around Dankuni and passengers can avail already developed road transport facilities and people who wish to travel to nearby places can go directly to the destination without going to busy Howrah station and go through a lot of humps of journey. Similarly, at SE Railway end some more trains can be diverted to Shalimar by creating more facility there as it has already having road network and other facilities.
Most important is now removal of excess rain water at Tikiapara car shed. Due to inundation of card shed and tracks, always people and railways suffer a lot. If Tikiapar car shed is shifted to existing railway land before Lilua station. more

Murali Dhar Ji.... Why should the RB think that the Loco Driver will dose off if the cab is airconditioned ? Does it happen in the Western world ? I feel the Loco Driver is the most important functionary of the railways who is responsible for our safe travel , punctuality and thus deserves all the respect and comfortable ambience more
Trains to and from Mangalore are always given stepmotherly treatment by the Railways. Why is it so? more
All points are valid and need attention. One more point is :::: there's an immediate need for construction of RAMPS at every platform ::::: so that one can carry his luggage with comfort:::: more
The polnts made are already well known. So what's new? Where the charter which says it wil be completed by so and so time. Double tracks does not mean necessarily on time. Today's double tracks are groaning under the load of so many trains every day; and instead of being rational about, new trains are being introduced. So one has to think from the immediate to the future. Future does not lie in SPG type trains or TGV. It lies in rationalising routes and times and ensure that they are are on time. How it is going/can be done is anybody's guess. And so back to the loop line: where is the place for additional tracks? The RB is against Airconditioning the locomotives as yet, because some member things that the AC in the drivers cab will lead them to sleep !! Wow !! I am not a LP nor a ALP but a citizen who is crazy about railways. How many of those on the various Committes have travelled in an Engine for at least three years running during the DAYTIME and night time ? Even today most locos are fitted with outdated sitting arrangements for LOCO pilots, That is why I say improve the conditions. There is no incentive for the late running to make up the loss of time, because of speed restrictions, turnouts and so on. Who's gong to bell the cat There is so much to this subject that each point needs to be deliberated separately. Otherwise it is a good PR for the IR with the sanctimonious Railway Board. more
