Inequality in India

I see the local circles takes up many issues and people discuss and vote. My submission to you is to discuss issue of inequality in India and do something about it. Here is some info:

Inequalities in India are massive. The top one per cent of Indian adults, a rich enclave of eight million inhabitants are making at least $20,000 a year, roughly equal to Hong Kong in population and average income.

The next nine per cent, are similar to central Europe, which is in the middle of the global wealth economies. The next 40 per cent of India’s population is similar to its combined South Asian poor neighbours, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Approximately half a billion are on a par with the poorest peoples of Africa. So, contrary to government claims, Indian poverty is well over 50 per cent, made worse by the colossal failure of demonetisation.

It is important to remember that India’s mean GDP per head is just $1,700, and 80 per cent of the population makes less than that.

A global study recently concluded that one in 10 Indians had an annual income of more than $3,150 in 2014. That leaves only 78 million making close to $10 a day. To compare this to consumer prices, the latest iPhone, which costs $1,400 in India, represents half a year’s pay for an Indian who just makes it into the top 10 per cent of earners.

The proportion of Indians making around $10 a day hardly shifted between 2010 and 2016. In other words, the middle class is stagnant, despite government and neoliberal propaganda. But to get into the top 1 per cent of earners, an Indian needs to make just over $20,000 a year. more

One country shouldn't compare with other countries' inequality, or whatever criteria. Just do what is suitable to the country. In india, I believe the main problem is corruption at all levels, not just with government but also with people. That should be reduced drastically. Second, parents must educated in proper hygiene so that they can teach their children. Above all, Ethics must be re-taught to the parents so they can pass it down to their children. If all of the above are imbibed in children there would be a cultural revolution for the better. Our generation cannot have the fruits of our labor, but at least future generations can enjoy. Best wishes. more

"Diversity brings colour in clan", I read it somewhere in my growing years. Any attempt to bring all people on the same level of education and earnings is bound to fail. Not even the developed Nations have been able to achieve this. For your own satisfaction, contribute towards educating one or two children beginning with Nursery right up to University degree. If you can afford it, do philanthropy on a larger scale. That'll help narrowing down the imbalance between people of different economic levels. more
Inequality is bound to exist. We all learn from the nature around that we are living in. The earth is not plane. We travel via road, air and water but experience bouncing in all the three. In schools and colleges in the same class room taught by the same teacher still we score differently. While some love manual work some others love to work on desk. Some love traveling and some dislike it. The beauty is that there are opportunities for all. As such the earnings bound to differ thus the life style which certainly will reflect in the society that we are in. People continue to do what they are doing. If you give one, ten, or hundred rupees to a beggar he will still be begging. You give him everyday still he will be begging. Changing ones life style will take one generation. That, however, doesn’t mean that we cannot bring in changes. We certainly can! But that need a strong leadership. Government formed by a democratically elected can make rule with commitment and dedication that certainly bring in changes in the society and uplift the living standards of its people. Singapore is an example. Thanks more
