Inputs on Challenges to handle Medical Emergencies

Both urban India and rural India have their own set of challenges when it comes to medical emergencies. For example: In parts of urban India, ambulances struggle to find their way to the passenger and back to the hospital. In rural India, many times the nearest hospital is 3-4 hours away.

With this post we would like you to share all the issues faced by citizens when they have a medical emergency. From transportation to access to hospitals and from availability of qualified Doctors to trust in the process/treatment, please list all issues.

We will then have a seperate review on root causes and solutions with the objective of giving the Government a whitepaper on what is that the citizens want collectively.

We look forward to your inputs! more

The training part during Internship / Housemanship should be rigorous and the HOD's should be very particular about it. For the public general awareness regarding to make way for ambulances should be inculcated. I have personally seen ambulance stucked in jam due to a political party procession and the leaders were busy to provoke their supporters shouting Zindabad Zindabad. So shameful. more
Every medical emergency needs support system in place within shortest possible time. We need to have at least 5 people as volunteers who respond even at odd hours. In Multi storey colony with no lifts, it becomes uphill task to bring the patient on ground without help from neighbours. I have seen many losing life due to no one at call to help them reach ground floor. more
We need to strengthen disease surveillance at first place by increasing activities concerning public health. Exclusive Disease Surveillance units and Vector control units need to be created. This will decrease disease incidence to humans. more
Generally Experienced Doctors are not available at times. The new recruits fresh from college are manning the show. This causes irreparable damage to the patients. One Experienced Doctor should always be present in the Hospitals. Besides dedication is also absent in the noble profession. more
Fear of sickness is helping Hospitals loot - 60% ladies are unnecessarily delivered by caesarean and 40% of the Heart operations are not necessary - Every Hospital needs to audited for these acts by an independent authority with rotation of Citizen members in it. If not they can also be bought easily and acts are perpetuated. It is high time this day-light robbery is controlled. more
