Inputs Sought: Stray Animal Management in India
Many of you have written to us to take up this subject. Stray dogs, monkeys and other animals are rampant in India. Kindly list specific solutions that can be implemented by Government (National, State and Local) to effectively manage stray animals. Also if there are rules that must be put together for citizens to follow on this front, please share.

Stray dogs are big problems nowadays. Dogs have to be sterilised on a regular basis so that some fat lady does not show you the paper. It is not understood why dogs are not sterilised even after they don't have voting rights? more

Similarly cows and other animals also should be taken away to such large empty spaces, where the owners can go and fetch them after paying hefty penalties. more

I firmly support the thoughts of many of you, underlying the nuisance value of stray animals...especially dogs. Dogs for some reason have grown extremely aggressive and dangerous, attacking small kids and also animals at times. They account for numerous accidents, which is simply unacceptable. We here in our society face the same problem. To add to our woes, one oversmart lady comes everyday in an autorikshaw to feed the dogs of our society. When we resist, she pulls out a sheet of paper citing the provisions in the Indian Penal code to punish anyone who dares to harm street dogs or stops anyone who feeds them. She actually threatens to sue us if we resist her!!! This means, we have to treat street dogs with utmost respect even at the cost of risking our children's safety!! My own son was attacked by two dogs when he was 6 yrs old. They were literally on his chest and about to bite him badly, when fortunately help arrived...!! I shudder to think of the consequences, had he been bitten!! These dogs should be captured and left in large empty demarcated pieces of lands, wherein they can be cared for. Anyone who wants to feed them can go there and do it. We can even donate a bit to take care of them, but they cannot be tolerated between us...period! more

The pigs, cattle & sheep etc. are intentionally left in the public areas to lessen the burden of cost of feeding by owners. This is with selfish motives & intentions which are leading to gross indiscipline & spreading of diseases.. This is resulting in the spreading of brain fever from pigs, traffic jams, accidents& greenery loss from cattle& sheep etc. In the good olden days these stray animals were taken in to government custody & kept separately. After paying penalties were released. Now a day this practice is dispensed with. The high powered bureaucracy is a corpse, as it shows apathy on the matters relating to public interest. The ideal solutions are 1) Pigs are to be given a rate tag to send to slaughter house for elimination. (This stops the spreading of brain fever) 2) The cattle is to be handed over to cattle homes maintained by social organizations.( Legal clearance is to be given to cow ashrams for collection of all stay cows from public places, more

More than stray animals, it's the deliberate attempts by the cattle owners to leave the cattles on the main roads/ highways under the guise of grzing - is the main challenge , the motorists face , which needs to be looked into. In case of accedents both the motorist as well as the poor cattle are the victims and whereas the iirresponsible/ illegitimate owner is the winner thro extortion. Stricter rules needs to be framed by fine/ seazure etc. Or otherwise this is forms a technique - indirect paid slaughter ,especially for COWS ! more
