Interest on Inoperative Accounts
The collective recommendations from the circle along with the poll results on EPFO paying interest on inoperative accounts has been presented to EPFO and the same will be reviewed by a High Level Committee today.
Over 75% of you said that interest should be paid on such accounts.

Efforts should be made to make Indian citizen alert, sensitive and vigilant. Why inoperative accounts remain so, for years together. These steps to give interest on inoperative accounts make Indians dumb. more

The statements of a/c should be sent at the available permanent address of the inoperative a/c holders every year so that they can claim refund in case of need. more

The most important issue is that INTEREST ON INOPERATIVE P.F. ACCOUNTS shall not be applied on those accounts from completion of ONE YEAR from the month the Member resigns from an establishment . Amounts of such Accounts shall be maintained in Dead Account Funds that shall not carry any interest from the day transferred . The EPFO shall make it mandatory to inform specifically with a separate Form about the cessation of Services of a Member either due to Resignation , or Termination or on any other cause . more

Yes it has to be given and also the amount should be automatically informed to the owner. Also the nationalised banks sometimes debit amounts on inoperative savings account and steal the amount .This practice should be stopped. more
