IRCTC convenience charges biggest loot

If you book a 1000 rupees ticket why do we have to pay 100+ rupees as convenience charge for credit card payment.

What kind of digital india is this. 2-3% as convenience charge is ok but 10%?

Can LocalCircles please take this up. Is this how govt is planning to reduce losses of railways?? more

Convenience charge by IRCTC should be removed. When private sector companies bear the merchant charges then why not all Govt agencies bear such charges. There is no logic for charging convenience charges. more
In fact, they should give us a discount. Because not only do we use our own infrastructure, but we also release the load on their infrastructure like office space, personnel, their salaries electricity, allowances etc. You are right what kind of digital India is this ? Even the Government is behaving like private players. Simple. If you can't beat them, just join them ! more
Convenience fee is charged not only by rail portal but air travel portals too. the levy by IRCTC is insignificant comparted air travel portals which is 15 times more. Government must intervene and regulate this structure. more
When our beloved(?) PM espouses digital, digital, digital anywhere and everywhere is the govt right in imposing convenience charges. I feel it is NOT. more
I agree with Vijaya Nair, convenience fee should not be more than 2%. More than this, this convenience is only for general public? And not at all for IRCTC? IRCTC also enjoy convenience of digital booking and payment, saving lots of labor on manual booking and cash handling inconvenience. considering this IRCTC should pass 2% discount to public on account of their convenience. Moreever, GOI has directed all for not charging anything in case of UPI payment. All Electric and telephone companies are accepting payment through UPI with zero charges. BUT here our IRCTC is still charging on UPI payment also. more
