IRCTC site hacked
Reading TOI news that the IRCTC site has been hacked and personal details of over 1 crore Indians have been compromised.
Request Railway authorities in circle to advise what all info has gone into hands of hackers.
Also, what corrective is being taken by Railways so this doesnt happen again.
Please advise. more

Suggestion of N P K Singh is good that we have separate email ID etc. But it may be difficult to manage so many passwords/addresses. In any case, a smart hacker will manage to get into my data despite all precautions. IRCTC, and other online shopping portals may devise programmes to segregate data of users into 'frequently needed' and 'seldom needed' categories, and store the latter more securely, to be accessed only in an emergency. more

The best thing to do is to have a separate email id , phone no, etc. for these public, social sites and not give the same for your banking transactions and personal transactions. It would be even better if a bank account with a D. card can be also maintained separately for such online, public, shopping, social sites wherein a small amount of funds can be kept at any given time. Do that even if the details r accessed they will be of not much use. As we see these days recharge, shopping, booking, paying bills etc . everything is being done online. So we need to be self secure. more
